HISTORY: West Lake is part of the chain of lakes known as the Iowa great lakes. The Santee or Dakota Sioux inhabited the area. The native American name for the lake was Minnetonka, or “great Waters.” The name was changed so as not to be confused with Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota. Legend has it that there was a Native American Chief Okoboji that the name was changed to. Okoboji is thought to mean “place of rest.”

Arnolds Park
A historic amusement park home to Legend, an ACE roller coaster landmark that carried its first-ever passengers in 1927 and is thought to be the 13th oldest wooden rollercoaster ride in the United States.
